Our History
In 2015, The Austin African American Business Networking Association (AAABNA) and The 15th District Chicago Police Department partnered to boost the health of the community, prevent crime and violence, and increase safety initiatives. With the intention to be proactive and not to be reactive, this annual event gives the community something to look forward to. Our partnership between the Chicago Police Department, Elected Officials, the Chicago Park District, and many other community stakeholders; has created a positive impact in all aspects of the community, shedding light on the importance of our health.

Our Story
The Austin P.O.W.E.R. 5K first began in 2015 to highlight that when the community works together, we have strength or P.O.W.E.R. (People. Organizing. Wealth. and Economic. Resources.).
Each year, a different theme is selected to bring awareness on health related situations that we experience in our community. Whether it be physical, mental, or emotional health; it matters and should be discussed. Join us every September, on Chicago Avenue in the Soul City Corridor! Get involved!
Our Theme
Ten years ago, we took our first steps together. Now, we reunite. The Austin P.O.W.E.R. 5K has always been more than a race—it’s a movement, a tradition, and a homecoming for the Austin community. This year, as we celebrate a decade of health, unity, and empowerment, we’re inviting YOU—our past participants, new friends, families, and neighbors—to come together like never before.
This 10th Anniversary is a Family Reunion, where everyone—whether you've been here since the start or you're joining us for the first time—is welcomed as part of the AP5K family. We’re calling back our past runners, walkers, volunteers, and supporters to join hands with new faces and keep this legacy strong.
